Should I ask the boss/HR person how I should dress for a job interview?
It’s a startup company and I’m corresponding with the CEO, who seems like a cool guy. I was going to wear a suite at first but then I see that on the sight his dress code is business casual.
Can I just say, "should I wear a suite when I meet you or is business casual okay." I have to contact them 1 more time for the appointment. Outside of my example is it an okay thing to do?
Or can I just assume that I can dress business casual. -
How your sales team get paid?
how do you guys get paid as a salesperson or how most employers pay his sales team to make sure they work hard to get more sales.. we are new startup company and we cant afford to pay too high basic to attract good salespersons… offering good commission rates might not attract them since the basic is low.. what do you guys think is the ideal package for the sales force to remain active and motivated? Please advise.

It was filed in mid 2008, within 30 days before receiving the stock.
The amount paid for the options was equal to the value of the stock at the time I received it.
Do I need to file anything extra this year? If so, what do I need to file?

How should I distribute ownership/compensation in my software company?
I have a programmer that wants equity in my company. This is a startup company, and we’re looking to "bootstrap" it, meaning grow as the money comes in. Our software may be very cheap to maintain, and may sell for 15k for a license and 5k/year thereafter for maintenance.
He doesn’t want a salary, or money upfront, rather 20% equity, which I think is WAY too much. How can I compensate him in a fair way, possibly based on his performance. He may be leaving the company in 4 years, but wants to build some passive income.
How do I not pay hourly, yet hold him accountable for the work, while maintaining some ownership of the idea. As the project grows, there may be more programming needed, and maintenance needed on a regulary basis for each customer.
Thanks for the information! Is anyone familiar with phantom stock? How could I award that based on performance? Also, we may be doing this part-time, so a salary of 100k is probably excessive. Thanks! -

How are gains on stock options taxed when the company is sold?
I have 2% worth of stock options (common stock, iso) in a small startup company. I have not exercised these options. If the company sells in the future, lets say for million, how would the gains be taxed? How much would I stand to pocket if the company sells? Lets say the options were valued at K when they were offered.
I assume in this situation that some gains would be be subject to short term capital gains tax. What would the difference be if I were to exercise these options and think for long term capital gains tax?

I am being offered a yearly salary + xx amount of stock options for a private company and was wondering if this is good to accept or should I negotiate? It is a startup company which is in fact though growing. I need an advise. What benefits I can get for having a stock option? Is it worth having stock options for a private company? Thanks.
