Your parents car will be a good bet. If you have to get your own car, have your parents add you to their policy. Otherwise, get a car that is safe, slow and gets good gas mileage and the rates should be ok. Compact cars like a camery, kia, taurus, cavalier and etc.. should be good money savers.

Listen to what the 1st person to answer your post said, also if your parents do decide to purchase a vehicle for you, to qualify for insurance discounts, the vehicle should have as many safety features as possible, lo-jack, after market security system installed and working (yes this and the lo jack will give substantial saving) air bags installed and working. Working seat belts (some companies like AAA will actually want to see the vehicle so they can verify all safety features). Try going online & checking out Consumers Report, they do a tell all story on things like this, in search bar, type in car, then type in best vehicle for lowest insurance cost

The exact make & model for lowest priced car insurance varies from insurance company to insurance company.
Here are things you can do as a new driver ( 16 years old) to minimize your insurance rates.
1. Get good grades (A’s & B’s) in school. Insurance companies see getting good grades as a sign of being responsible.
2.Ask your parents to be added to their policy. As a result of being in their 30’s your parents will have a better rate than you could get as a new driver by yourself.
3. Buy a car that fits the following description:
a. not older than 5 years old. Less chance of something breaking. This means less chance insurance company has to pay to fix car.
b. not a sporty car. Sporty cars cost more to insure because the driver often likes to show off what his sporty car can do. This leads to accidents. If you really want something sporty get the coupe version instead of the sedan version.
c. not an expensive car. Expensive cars are expensive to fix if something breaks. This means higher insurance rates.
After market safety features and things which protect the car like The Protector may cost a little to add on but will save money on insurance because they prolong the life of the car and driver.
Probably something in the $10 thousand-$21 thousand range would be best for you.
d. Gets good gas mileage.
e. Maintain a good driving record. It doesn’t matter who’s car it is the driver is responsible if an accident occurs. This means if you are driving my car and hit a fire hydrant you are responsible for the damage not me. Even if I’m in the passenger or backseat. Don’t believe me ? Check the Rules of the Road book or ask your driving instructor.

It should be 4-cyl, 4-door, not sporty, not luxury.
