So if 1 of the reasons the US went to war (and I’m not saying it is) would be to improve the US economy, how would it do it? Our economy is already in a recession, would it be booming soon? A lot of people claim this is a reason, but out of some things you would think our gas prices would be very low, but instead are very high. Where’s the logic in this?

Will the war in Iraq benefit the US economy?

only way we can help our economy is taking over iraq, using their oil, digging tunnels underground over to saudi arabia, taking their oil, telling them to go fly a kite, going over to opec, tell them to stop making their princes build stupid buildings and resorts along the nile, and stop enriching themselves for greed, then we make gas super cheap cause we get it for free in iraq….that’s the only logical thing i can think of

what about the contractors it’s keeping employed, what about the weapons manufactures here in the us that are employing thousands of workers, what about the telecommunication sector that keep lines of communication open between the two countries, and how about those American oil companies. sadly oil companies are major players, so they can call some of the shots. it’s more about who has more muscle and greater control over resources.

I dont beleive that the war in Iraq has helped America in any way here my pointers to why ?
1. They didnt find WMDs
2 The US republicans ,opposed the United Nations who apposed the war
3 has led to worse economy,life style,social equality,life span for most Iraq"s.
4 Has destroyed the infrastructure for Iraq economy, most citiziens dont benefit from the invasion only western multinationals prosper.
5 Sadam Hussein is dead,it still hasnt been proven that he had affliliations with Alkida ? speculative rheteric ?
6 America has borrowed 2 trillions dollars from its economy to wage the war, with little benefit to its citiziens. Its citizeins are paying higher taxes for the folly, while the republicans make money from blood for oil.
7 America is now realising that the war has costed them dearly, and its citiziens are paying a high price for the republicans error……….economic melt down,US dollars diminishing price
8 America"s reputation has been severley damage Internationally from its invasion

HELL NO! This stupid war is forcing us to borrow money from the federal reserve which we have to pay back with interest and only makes our national debt worse. This pointless war is a piece of crap. Not to mention that this war along with every other war is all bullshit to cause the collapse of the US. Check out the movies Endgame and Zeitgeist. Not everything in these videos should be taken seriously but they do make numerous points that are substantial.

Well as my Western Civilization professor put it, we are in a lose lose situation. There are two REALLY BIG issues in the government right now. The US economic issues, and terror. If we leave Iraq, just pull out our economy is going to come out of the drain, but the insurgents are going to win and that is a HUGE threat to U.S. security. If we do not pull out the U.S. economy is flushed because we cannot support this war without increased taxing. Some people have said that we will have to stay in Iraq for 100 years to stabilize it.

Thats a good question. I dont think this war benefits the United States at all,,,unless America wins and gets total control of the country and keeps the Insurgiance at bay or eradictaes it completely. Once that is done you now have a new mid-eastern alli who will provide you with all the strategic location to spy on Iran and Pakistan,,,,,,OH AND THAT LIGHT SWEET CRUDE STUFF AMERICANS ARE SOO "ADDICTED TO" AS ONE PERSON PUT IT.

The war, and the invasion of Iraq and teh continued US presence there has had huge effects on the US economy.
Firstly, resources have been diverted to support of the war. Thousands of people have found jobs in the armament sector (defence, factories churning out weapons) and the armed service secotr (think Blackwater and other so called consultants). Furthermore, there has been an increase in the size of teh amred forces and these people sent to the front have to be paid.
It can be argued that the war created job opportunities for the lower rung opf society. It has been said that the soldiers killed in Iraq were predominantly poor people. That probably also means that people recruited for the ‘job’ are also predominantly from the ‘poorer’ sections of the population.
It is a fact that poorer people tend to save less than richer people (in terms of % of wages). Hence if wages are redistributed from the rich to the poor (hiring soldiers rather than spend money hiring engineers for highway projetcs) then the total spending will increase boosting the economy (in a manner similar to the spending package of Mr Bush).
However, money spent on bullets, money spent on the oil and fuel for the fighter jets, the missiles shot at targets in Iraq all cost huge sums. These are spent once and do not affect future revenue streams unlike say money spent building a highway. Military spending tends to affect the economy less, in the medium to long term, than infrastructure projects.
The main winners in the war however, are the oil companies. Exxon, for example, has declared record profits. Furthermore supporting companies such as Halliburton are making a killing. Basically, a large chunk of the tax payers money that finances the war finds itslef channeled into the pockets of the huge oil conglomerates and supporting industries, and their executives. This redistribution of tax dollars towards the rich has less effect on the economy than if the money had gone to people who are less well off.
Hence, in terms of overall effect on the US economy, I’d say the war has resulted mainly in a redistribution of tax dollars to the rich, and this negatively impacts the miltiplier effect.
Therefore, spending on the war is unlikely to drag the US economy out of the slowdown it finds itself in.
As for oil prices, think about it. Iraq has one of the largest oil reserves and was a big oil producer. Prior to the war, Iraq exports of oil were restricted under the oil-for-food programme. After teh war, once the wells were repaired, there were no more restrictions of the supply of Iraqi oil. Oil has been flowing in huge amounts out of Iraq. However, as supply is rising, so are prices? Is demand rising so much fatser? India and CHina didn’t just start growing… A clue is found above, Exxon (and SHell for example) have been making record profits… Now you know where a large chunk of the money is going to.
Hope that helped.
